Gairdner Awards 2018 honour GBD studies

Creators of the GBD studies look back at almost two decades since the first iteration. Other awards recognised the fields of optogenetics, epigenetics, and lung cancer research.

Alan Lopez from the University of Melbourne and Christopher Murray from the University of Washington have won the 2018 John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award for their groundbreaking work to create the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, which measures deaths, injuries, and disease burden around the world. Read more in The Lancet.
